The meaning of the name California is Hot Furnace Or Mythical Land
The origin of the name California is Spanish
Notes: California is a name of a U.S. state. There are many theories on how it was named or why, but most likely it's derived from the Old Spanish "Calit Fornay" meaning hot furnace. This theory stems from early maps, which had the land labeled as two words: "Cali Fornia."
The other theory is that the name originates from "Califia" - a mythical island paradise described in Las Serges de Esplandian - a Spanish romance novel by Garcia Ordonez de Montalvo written ca. 1510.
